It is very easy to start off your Clicker Training with your dog.
Often dogs are already very food-motivated, that means you only need some treats to reassure your dog.
Besides the treats, we need now a so called "clicker" which you can get
in various pet shops (if you are from Ireland, check out Maxi Zoo, even
though they are a bit pricey- around 4€ ).
You can also find dog clickers online via Ebay or other sites and if you
dont know where to look at at all, send me an email and I will get one
for you!
If you don't like to have a clicker in your hand, you can also do a
certain noise or say a certain word. I used to do CT with my horse too
and sometimes it was challenging to have rope, treats and a clicker in
only two hands.
So I used to do a "clack" noise with my tongue instead using the clicker.
You can do the same with your dog!
For example you can use the word "cookie, click, yip, etc". Be sure to
use a word which sounds different enough. It helps if you dont use it in your daily vocabulary so you wont say it by mistake :).
As for the treat, you can use very different sizes but the smaller
the better. Its handy to have small pieces and it allows you to give
your dog more of it in one go.
You can either buy treats from the shop or use pieces of cheese,
sausages etc. Be sure that your dog is used to that treat so he/she wont
get an upset stomach.
I love to use these little treats which you can get at Maxi Zoo:
So, are you ready? :)
